ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್ ಪ್ರಕಾರ: ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ 30%ಕ್ಕೂ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಎಥನಾಲ್. ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ಒಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ.

ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಆಹಾರ ಸಚಿವರು 63 ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ಸ್ಯಾಂಪಲ್‌ಗಳ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್ ಟೆಸ್ಟ್ ರಿಸಲ್ಟ್ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಲವು ಸ್ಯಾಂಪಲ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಥನಾಲ್ 20%ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಇತ್ತು ಅಂತ ವರದಿ. ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು: IOCL 31.2%, HPCL 30.5%. ದಂಡ, ವಾಹನ ಸವಾರರಿಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ತೈಲ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL) ಹೇಳೋದು: ಟೆಸ್ಟ್ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ವಿಧಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ, ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ BIS E20 (IS 17021) ಪ್ರಕಾರನೇ ಇದೆ.
Karnataka's Food Minister released lab results for 63 petrol samples (6 Nov 2026); several were reported above 20% ethanol, the highest IOCL 31.2% and HPCL 30.5%. He asked for penalties and compensation for drivers. IOCL, BPCL and HPCL reject this: they say the testing did not follow the prescribed statutory and technical procedures, and that their fuel conforms to E20 (IS 17021). Both are claims; neither side's test has been independently re-checked yet.

E20 ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಏನು? ಎಥನಾಲ್ ಇದ್ರೆ mileage ಯಾಕೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ?

⛽ E20 = ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ + 20% ವರೆಗೆ ಎಥನಾಲ್ (ಕಬ್ಬು/ಧಾನ್ಯದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ಆಲ್ಕೋಹಾಲ್). ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ಮಾನದಂಡ BIS IS 17021.
E20 is petrol blended with up to 20% ethanol; India's standard for it is BIS IS 17021.

🔋 ಎಥನಾಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್‌ಗಿಂತ ಸುಮಾರು 30% ಕಡಿಮೆ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಇದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೇ ಎಥನಾಲ್ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಆದಷ್ಟೂ ಒಂದು ಲೀಟರ್‌ಗೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ km.
Ethanol carries about 30% less energy than petrol per volume (US DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center), so the more ethanol in the blend, the fewer km per litre.

🏍️ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ತೈಲ ಸಚಿವಾಲಯ (30 ಜುಲೈ 2026): ಬ್ಲೆಂಡಿಂಗ್‌ನಿಂದ ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ಎಂಜಿನ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ವರದಿ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ; ಒಂದು ತಯಾರಕರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ mileage ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಸುಮಾರು 3–3.5%. ಹಳೆ ವಾಹನಗಳ ರಬ್ಬರ್ ಪಾರ್ಟ್/ಸೀಲ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಆತಂಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದೆ.
The Petroleum Ministry (PIB, 30 Jul 2026) says there is no verified report of widespread engine failure from blending, and cites a manufacturer's 3–3.5% mileage impact. The state has raised concerns about rubber parts and seals in older vehicles.

About ₹200 more a month (~₹2,400 a year).

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ · ಅಂದಾಜು · ₹100/ಲೀಟರ್ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು. Our own illustrative estimate, not from a study: 30% ethanol at ~30% less energy gives 0.7 × 1 + 0.3 × 0.7 = 0.91 of pure petrol's energy, i.e. ~9–10% fewer km (50 → ~45). This compares with pure petrol (E0); compared with normal E20 fuel the extra drop would be only about 3%. ₹100/L is a round number for easy maths, not today's pump price. Your real mileage depends on your vehicle, riding and traffic.
